The RecZone, located at
ELIGIBILITY Skaters who are currently enrolled in either a USFS Basic Skills Program or are full USFS Members are eligible to compete. Eligibility will be based on skill or test level as of April 7th, 2008. All Basic 1 through 8 level skaters must skate at highest level passed. Skaters in other events may skate at current level or one level higher, but not both levels. Skaters will be broken into groups by birth date. Males and females may, or may not, be placed in the same group.
ENTRIES AND FEES All entries must be postmarked by April 7th, 2008. The entry fee is $35 for the first event and $15 for additional events. Late entries will be accepted if space permits, with a $10 late penalty per event. Please note that there will be no refunds after the closing date unless The RecZone cancels the competition, or a particular event. Entry forms must be filled out completely with the proper fees enclosed. Checks should be made payable to The RecZone. There will be a $20 fee for returned checks.
AWARDS Every competitor will receive an award, and all events will be final rounds.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Information regarding groups and skating times will be e-mailed out to each competitor approximately 2 weeks prior to the competition.
PRACTICE ICE Please enclose an additional $8 if you would like to pre-pay for a space on one of the morning practice ice sessions. Practice ice will be held prior to all events, and skaters may pre-register only for one slot per event. If spots are available, skaters may walk-on the morning of the competition for $10. Practice ice assignments will be sent out with the tentative schedule.
MUSIC The music for all free skating and/or showcase programs must be provided on cassette tapes or CDs by the skater. Tapes and CDs should be clearly marked with the name of the skater and event entered. Competition music is to be turned in at the time of registration. Time duration is always +/- 10 seconds.

skater will be judged on interpretation of the music, costume, and props (optional) rather than technical skills. Props must be hand props or those that the skater can get on and off the ice without assistance. Vocal music is permitted.

Interpretive Event:
Music will be provided at the time of the event. Each group of skaters will listen to a music selection twice during a short warm-up, then each skater will hear the music for the third time off the ice before individually performing his or her interpretation to the selected music. Judging will be based on interpretation of the music, and not technical ability. Skaters are not allowed to receive any coaching from instructors, parents, or anyone else during this event.
